pediatric Occupational Therapy: building strong foundations for lifelong learning
Occupational Therapists
What is pediatric occupational therapy?
Pediatric outpatient occupational therapy is a specialized form of therapy that helps children develop skills necessary for daily living. Therapists work with children to improve fine and visual motor skills, sensory processing, and social-emotional development. Through play-based activities, they address challenges such as pre-writing, dressing, executive functioning, and coordination. This therapy aims to enhance children's independence, participation, and overall quality of life.
Fine/Visual Motor: Through targeted exercises and activities, therapists help children develop the skills needed for tasks like handwriting, drawing, and using utensils. They address challenges such as grasping, eye-hand coordination, and visual tracking.
Self-Support: Therapists work on activities like dressing, grooming, and feeding, through a variety of methods with the goal of helping children become more independent and confident in their daily routines.
Adaptive strategies and equipment: Sometimes, a little creativity goes a long way! Our occupational therapists can recommend adaptive strategies and equipment to make everyday tasks easier.
Executive Functioning/Cognition: OT supports cognitive gains and executive functioning in children through engaging activities focusing on helping children develop attention, direction following, problem-solving, and safety skills.
